Job summary

Groundforce Shorco (GFS), part of Vp plc, is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer to join the technical shoring team in Harlow. You will deliver temporary works designs, report to the Design Manager, and collaborate with sales and operations to ensure successful project delivery.

Training and development are priorities as you grow with the team. You will have a Civil Engineering degree (2:1+), knowledge of geotechnics, and familiarity with design software.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc, BEng or MEng) with 2:1 or above.
• Knowledge of geotechnics and Rankine’s theory.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; CAD software desirable.

Responsibilities

• Produce preliminary and construction stage designs for shoring (temporary works).
• Assist with workloads of other technical teams as required.
• Collaborate with sales and operations to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Support development of new tools and software for the technical team.
• Maintain Groundforce’s online design tools.

Job description

Groundforce Shorco (GFS) are currently looking to add to our technical shoring team through the appointment of a Graduate Civil Engineer. This is a chance to join a collaborative team, completing temporary works designs using our vast range of proprietary equipment. You will report directly to the Design Manager, who will oversee your workload, training and development. You will work directly with those in your team as well as your peers in the wider technical department.

Key Responsibilities

• Producing preliminary and construction stage designs in a timely manner in accordance with approved codes of practice and legislation (CIRIA publications, BS5950, Eurocode 3 and 7). These will predominately be shoring (ground support) temporary works designs;
• Assist with the workload of the other technical teams as required;
• Liaise and Collaborate with our sales and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery within time and budget constraints.
• Helping support in the production of new tools and software for the technical team to drive efficiencies and save time;
• Helping to maintain and update Groundforce’s online suite of design tools;

What We’re Looking For

You will have graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering (Bsc, BEng or MEng, 2:1 or above) or similar discipline;

You will have studied, or have experience of:

• Geotechnics, including Rankine’s Theory (Required)
• Eurocode 3 and 7 (Desirable)
• Retaining wall design (Desirable)
• Structural and stress mechanics (Desirable)

You will be:

• Excellent at time management and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Focussed on excellence and take pride in your work
• Able to communicate with a wide range of people, from Engineering customers to Sales to Site teams by telephone as well as emails
• A strong team player
• Committed to continuous improvement and personal development
• Keen to solve problems and identify better ways of working

You will be a competent user of:

• Microsoft Office (Required)
• Autodesk AutoCAD or Revit (Desirable)
• CADS Piled Wall Suite (Desirable)
• Tekla Tedds and/or Structural Designer (Desirable)
