Job summary

Avensis Support is seeking a dedicated Youth Support Worker to promote health, safety and welfare of young people in our care. You will encourage healthy lifestyles, build trusting relationships, support education and employment goals, and respond to safeguarding and data protection requirements.

You will work with colleagues to maintain records, participate in reviews and care planning, and provide practical help with daily living skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in youth work or social care preferred.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and data protection.
  • Ability to work with diverse young people.

  • Develop key working relationships with young people and support them through transitions.
  • Assist with safeguarding, risk assessment and action planning.
  • Provide for young people’s physical needs and practical daily living skills.

Job description

  • Develop understanding of and strive for excellent practice in line with standards, our policies

  • Support young people in all areas of their well-being, healthy lifestyles, positive outcomes,

    developing life skills and keeping safe, education/training/employment and accessing appropriate

    housing

  • Understand the principles of child development through promoting a healthy lifestyle,

    providing a variety of appropriate stimulating activities and being a consistent and caring adult role

    model

  • Be sensitive to the needs of the individual young people regarding race, culture, language,

    religion, gender, sexuality and culture-specific events

  • Develop effective key working relationships with young people and maintain relationships

    throughout key transition points and post 18 if required

  • Share in the practical activities necessary to maintain a firm but warm, welcoming and safe

  • Participate in assessing risks and producing action plans in relation to challenging behaviour,

    safeguarding and general health and safety using a risk managed (not risk adverse) approach

  • Provide for young people’s physical needs as necessary, for example by assisting and leading

    them towards independence cooking, washing, ironing, shopping, budgeting, making appointments

    and equip them with the skills to enable them to carry out such tasks themselves

Job Purpose
  • Ensure young people are kept informed of their circumstances and rights and promote

    young people taking an active role in planning their lives and taking as much control and

    responsibility as is appropriate

  • Contribute to and participate in case progress meetings, statutory reviews and all other

    meetings as required and assist in the formation and implementation of care plans and action plans

    that meet individual need

  • Produce accurate, informative and timely written and IT based records

  • Regularly reflect on practice (both your own and general operating practices) and take full

    advantage of professional supervision, line management and appraisals in line with the Restorative

    Matrix for Recruitment, Supervision and Appraisal

  • Understand confidentiality and data protection within the role

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, managers, partners

    and stakeholders

  • Be committed to safeguarding; promote the welfare of young people and adults and raise

    concerns as appropriate

  • Be prepared to take training in accordance to the roles.

  • Be alert to signs of distress, CSE, missing from home or abuse and take appropriate action

  • Provide additional support and comfort to young people under stress and understand the

    impact of data protection and confidentiality issues

  • Give young people the opportunity to participate in decisions affecting them, as appropriate

    to their age and ability, and take their wishes and feelings into account

  • Be accountable for monies allocated for specific purposes and maintain accurate financial records

    including the effective receipt, recording and accounting of petty cash systems

  • Provide the effective co-ordination and completion of day to day recording systems within

    the service/organisation

  • Requirement to use computer systems such as MS Office and Internet to complete certain

    tasks

Service Specific Requirements
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and relationships with young people and

    adults in accordance with Avensis Supports professional codes of conduct

  • To act as Corporate Parents and be role models. To teach independent Skills be willing to

    perform these skills. Maintaining the provisions up to standards.

Data Protection
  • Comply with Avensis Supports policies and supporting documentation in relation to

    Information Governance; this includes Data Protection, Information Security and Confidentiality
