Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust in Coventry is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide senior medical cover on Brook Ward, a 16-bed male acute inpatient service. The role includes responsibility for audit, governance and overall patient care within a multidisciplinary team.

The post is fixed-term for 3 months from late August, with potential extension. Applicants must be DBS-cleared and uphold GMC standards of practice within the ward team.

  • Must be GMC-registered and able to practice as a psychiatrist.

  • Lead on the provision of high quality care on Brook Ward, acting as a positive role model for patients and staff.
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits to maintain standards.

Job Title:Consultant Psychiatrist Service Line:Male Acute Professionally Accountable to:Medical Director Managerially Responsible to:Hospital Manager We are seeking an experiencedfull-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work atCygnet Joyce Parker Hospitaland provide senior medical cover onBrook Ward,our 15 bed Male Acute service. There will also be opportunities to work with our rehabilitation patients on Trent Ward, for which additional payment will be provided. This is a Fixed Term Contract for 3 months starting end of August, with the possibility of being extended to a permanent position. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines. Brook Wardis an emergency 16-bed acute inpatient service for men. The ward can accept service users on an informal basis and also those detained under the Mental Health Act. The ethos of the service is about assessing and treating individuals in the least restrictive environment and planning fo r discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community. Our team work closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay. In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist. Main duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted toBrook Ward Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits
  • Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance within the service
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings
  • Liaise with t he Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required
  • Good maintenance of patient records
  • To ensure and maintain regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
  • To communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
  • Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to the professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Contribute to the On call rota in line with the needs of the region
