Job summary

North Lakes Children’s Services is seeking a Residential Child Care Worker for casual shifts in Carlisle and Headsnook. You will support young people in a safe, nurturing environment, following structured activity plans and daily targets while promoting independence and life skills.

The role requires flexibility to cover ad-hoc shifts (08:00, 12:00, 14:00) and potential sleep-ins, with a commitment to safeguarding and well-being of children and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification or willingness to work toward it.
• Excellent communication, listening, and teamwork skills.
• Enhanced DBS to be completed (employer-paid).

Responsibilities

• Support daily routines: morning/evening tasks, personal hygiene, meals, school runs, activities, and bedtime.
• Promote independence, life skills, socialisation, and room cleanliness.
• Attend appointments and support activity plans and daily targets.
• Complete paperwork: day sheets, handovers, budgeting, checks, and daily records.
• Carry out household tasks: cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal prep, and kitchen hygiene.
• Complete safety checks (COSHH, fire, vehicle).
• Build positive relationships with families and help organise family time.

Main Duties

About You:

• Flexibility to work up to 14‑hour shifts with varied start times (08:00, 12:00, 14:00), including potential sleep‑ins
• Understanding of the challenges faced by young people in care
• Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (or willingness to work toward it)
• Excellent communication, listening, and teamwork skills
• Willingness to learn and complete an enhanced DBS (paid for by us)
• Experience in EBD, social care, residential work, or youth work (advantageous)
