Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to help pupils with SEMH needs within the Primary Behaviour Service. You will deliver interventions in schools and at the centre, helping students overcome barriers to learning and engagement.

The role involves collaboration with schools, families and professionals, and may contribute to expanding KS3 support and the Experts at Hand initiative to build confidence and inclusive practice.

Behaviour Support Worker (KS3 and Primary Transition) HCC625103

As a Behaviour Support Worker within the Primary Behaviour Service, you'll make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Using your empathy, resilience and relationship-building skills, you'll help pupils overcome barriers to learning, engagement and inclusion, enabling them to get the most from their education.

Working in partnership with schools, families and other professionals, you'll deliver targeted support and practical interventions that promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing service, including supporting the expansion of provision into Key Stage 3 settings and contributing to Hampshire Local Area Partnership's Experts at Hand offer, helping schools build confidence, capability and inclusive practice.

What you'll do

• Deliver individual and group interventions in schools and at the centre that help children and young people overcome barriers to learning and participation.
• Provide practical, pastoral and behavioural support, using de-escalation techniques and agreed strategies to meet individual needs.
• Work closely with schools, families and partner agencies to develop and implement effective support plans.
• Model and share good practice, contributing to behaviour support consultation, advice, training and workforce development.
• Maintain accurate records, contribute to reviews and help evaluate the impact of support provided.
• Support the delivery of training and strategic work.

What we're looking for

• Experience working in secondary schools with children and families, ideally supporting those with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Knowledge of child development and an understanding of the factors that can affect a child's ability to access and engage in education.
• Knowledge or experience of KS2 transition into KS3 would be desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, schools and professionals.
• The ability to remain calm, professional and solution-focused when managing challenging situations.
• A genuine commitment to inclusion and a belief that every child can succeed with the right support.
