RCS Colorectal Fellow in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery

Closing date is 03 December 2025

The position is for a laparoscopic peri CCT/CESR fellowship for applicants with existing experience of laparoscopic colorectal resections of all kinds. The post will focus on the advanced surgical management of colorectal conditions of cancer, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease with particular emphasis on the treatment of low rectal cancer. For senior trainees who wish to follow a career in advanced GI laparoscopy, the post is ideal.

Main duties of the job
  • Attend 4 sessions per week in the operating theatre, 1-2 sessions of outpatient clinic and 1 session of endoscopy.
  • Participate in 1 session of MDT, M&M and departmental meeting as well as 1 session of research.
  • Responsible for the inpatient care of colorectal consultants elective surgical patients, predominantly those of colorectal resections, expected to be at a peri‑CCT/CESR surgeon level.
  • Participate in an on‑call rota of out of hour duties: 1 in 8 weekdays, and similarly 1 in 8 Fridays and weekends. No responsibility for ongoing care of emergency surgical patients outside this time; operate on‑call at a registrar level in a consultant led service.

Job responsibilities

The care of the general and colorectal surgical patients is to be carried out to a level consistent with that of a newly appointed consultant colorectal surgeon. The post is seen as a period for a consultant waiting allowing time for honing of operative skills as well as preparation for the application to a substantive consultant post in the future.
