About the Role

Rochdale Additional Needs Service, team for deaf/hard of hearing is expanding. We are looking to appoint a full‑time permanent, peripatetic Qualified Teacher of the Deaf OR a qualified teacher willing to complete the mandatory qualification to become a qualified Teacher of the Deaf starting on 20th April 2026.

The successful applicant will be based at Number One Riverside, Smith Street. Rochdale. OL16 1XU and will work with deaf/hard of hearing children and young people (CYP), their families (home visits), schools (mainstream, special and pre‑school settings) and other professionals.

Our service aims to support CYP to develop their skills to become independent and active members in school and within their community. We aim to remove barriers to learning to improve participation, progress and independence.

We work closely with CYP, families, settings/schools and other agencies, providing specialist advice, training, teaching and assessment where appropriate.

Salary will be based on qualification and experience –

  • MPS/UPS + MAX SEN (for Qualified Teacher of the Deaf depending on experience/qualification)
  • MPS/UPS + MIN SEN (depending on experience/qualification. Once qualified move to MAX SEN)
About you

The successful teachers will:

  • Be a qualified Teacher of the Deaf or a qualified teacher willing to successfully complete the mandatory qualification required to become a qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
  • Be a dynamic practitioner who have proven experience in raising attainment for deaf/hard of hearing children or CYP with SEND.
  • Be an excellent communicator.
  • Have experience of multiagency working.
  • Be able to prioritise their workload.

The successful applicants will be appointed to the Sensory Team – Children with a Hearing Impairment within Rochdale Additional Needs Service. You will join a team that have high expectations, and who are raising standards by providing high quality support to Deaf/hard of hearing CYP, their families and settings.

You will need to have a solution focused approach to meeting individual CYP needs and be willing to adopt alternative strategies to ensure positive outcomes for all our CYP. A willingness to learn new skills and a positive 'can do' attitude is vital.
