Job description

At Firstco, we consult, design, build and support a range of control & communication systems within transport and other critical national infrastructure industries. Due to growing project demand, we are now looking for an experienced rail systems support engineer to join our ever expanding team.

Rail systems support engineers consult, design and deliver solutions into the railway sector, including stations, tunnels, track-side and line-wide systems.

Our systems engineers will provide systems integration and assurance expertise for railway control and monitoring systems, including functional safety, and for security and surveillance assets such as CCTV, public address, information systems, networks and other sub-systems as appropriate, collectively known as Security and Information Systems (SIS).

Due to the nature of railway projects, some works will be required to be undertaken over night shifts or weekends to meet operational constraints. This will be occasional and planned activity, with the role being predominantly weekday-based.

Specific roles and responsibilities are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Please be advised that this role will primarily be site based at Heathrow Airport.

Qualifications, Experience and Education Requirements - Including but not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
  • Able to demonstrate practical skills
  • Permitted to work and live in the UK without sponsorship
  • Systems Engineering
  • Qualified to obtain necessary passes to work air-side, track-side, in sub-surface rail locations, and in secure environments (licenses and training shall be provided, but the applicant must be able to meet requirements).
  • Clean drivers license

Key Responsibilities - Including but not limited to:

You can expect to get exposure to all of the following:

  • Undertake planned and reactive maintenance activities on several live control & communication systems
  • Project engineering, design, system Integration, testing/commissioning, installation.
  • Documentation production for projects and support.
  • Night work as and when required.
  • To have responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of staff and others and to comply at all times with the requirements of the Health and Safety regulations.
  • Work on – or near – any line managed by Network Rail during engineering hours

Non-Rail / Airport Work

All Firstco staff will be required to work on non-rail projects from time to time and to undertake other duties as and when reasonably requested. You will also be expected to follow prevailing health, safety, quality and relevant industry specific standards at all times.

There will be occasional on call work required, to support systems out of hours.
