Job summary

Ferrovial Construction (UK) Limited is seeking a Rail Systems Integration Engineer to support the interface management and delivery of railway system designs in London or Birmingham.

You will lead design integration across RAM, System Safety, Interoperability and Security, coordinating with client, designers and constructors to resolve interfaces and ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience on major multi-disciplinary rail projects.
  • Proficient in design coordination and interface management.
  • Knowledge of RAM, system safety, interoperability and regulatory frameworks.
  • Desirable Chartered status with IMechE, INCOSE or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Support, implement and maintain Interface Management Plan for railway systems designs integration.
  • Deliver RAM, System Safety, Interoperability, Security management per FBRS.
  • Manage system integration from design to construction and interface control documents.
  • Coordinate with contractors, client, designers and internal teams to resolve interfaces.
  • Chair regular railway systems/civils integration meetings.
  • Assist client with changes, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide technical input to commercial communications.

Job description

Rail Systems Integration Engineer

Department: Engineering/Design

Location: Based either London or Birmingham

Key responsibilities
  • Responsible for supporting, implementing and maintaining the relevant parts of the Interface Management Plan and for the processes for railway systems designs integration.
  • Accountability for delivering the processes set out in FBRS management plans in respect of RAM, System Safety, Interoperability, Security management.
  • Manage the system integration processes from design to construction. Manage System level Functional and Architecture Specifications and interface control documents.
  • Aid the consistency of the sub-systems deliverables across all projects and contribute towards the standardisation of specifications for sub-systems.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for the railway systems design interfaces.
  • Coordinate with other contractors (Railways Systems, Main Works), Client, Designers and internal teams to ensure resolution of design interfaces and systems integration.
Programme and Information coordination
  • Coordinate the supply chain to support the delivery of an efficient and compliant design, evidencing progressive technical assurance during design, construction and handover.
  • Close liaison with the design supply chain to ensure the delivery of these interfaces and deliverables associated with the managed disciplines (RAM, System Safety, Interoperability, Electrical Engineering (EMC and E&B and Security) as per the programme and budgetary constraints, and in accordance with the client s requirement.
  • Coordination with the broader interface management team, assurance team, design delivery team (alignment and effective delivery on time and within budgetary constraints) construction and logistic teams.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the broader design, systems safety and construction teams and client in Birmingham / London as required.
  • Chairing regular railways systems / civils systems integration meetings.
  • Support the client with identifying change, risk and opportunities.
  • Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of design and systems interface-related issues. Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc)
Key Skills and qualifications
  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • Chartered IMechE, PWA Institute, INCOSE, CEng ICE or similar is desirable.
  • Experience in major multi-disciplinary rail projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working on design integration and interface coordination.
  • Proficient in design coordination, design interface management and assurance documentation in railway projects.
  • Knowledge of railway systems, operating requirements, available equipment.
  • Knowledge of system safety, interoperability and RAM disciplines, processes and legal frameworks and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
  • Positive and collaborative approach.
