Job summary

Vital Human Resources is seeking a Technical Clerk to join the Signalling Design Team in Gateshead. You will provide administration and document-control support to signalling designers, ensuring safety-critical documentation is processed, controlled and distributed accurately.

With on-the-job training, you will learn signalling design software, such as CAD, and progress toward a Signalling Design Assistant role. A driven, detail-oriented mindset and IT proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Excellent attention to detail, especially with safety-critical documentation.
• Strong IT skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• The willingness to learn railway signalling concepts and design processes.
• A full UK driving licence or commitment to obtain one within six months.

Responsibilities

• Print, scan, file and manage signalling design documentation and project records.
• Process safety-critical paperwork accurately and follow document-control procedures.
• Maintain document-control systems, design records and issue registers.
• Ensure design information is stored, identifiable and accessible.
• Coordinate with delivery teams on work programmes and design delivery dates.
• Review weekly plans for upcoming design requirements and changes.
• Communicate changes to designers or team leaders and support workload coordination.
• Develop technical skills through training and mentoring; progress toward Signalling Design Assistant.
