Job summary

Pure Talent Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Operator-Fitter to maintain and operate rail grinding machines across the UK. The role demands extensive travel (up to three weeks per month) and a strong background in heavy industrial maintenance. You will join a team of engineers delivering safe, reliable track maintenance.

The position offers full training, progression through levels, and a compensation package with bonuses and allowances up to £70,000 depending on overtime and performance.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or formal apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in heavy industrial maintenance (agriculture, aggregates, rolling stock, offshore, or plant fitting).
• Hydraulics and pneumatics knowledge desirable.
• Full driving licence held.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, operate, and assess rail grinding machines in line with requirements.
• Perform daily maintenance: change grinding stones, clean machines, remove dirt.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental safeguards; complete daily forms and records.
• Assist as 2nd man/fire watch and support Supervisor as needed.
