  • To maintain efficiency of radiotherapy equipment for patient treatment.
  • To provide care to patients in the form of performing in-vivo measurements.
  • To keep records up to date for all aspects of the job in accordance with the quality system.
  • To report any faults, potential or real, to senior members of staff.
  • To plan radiotherapy treatments within the Pre-Treatment Department.
Main duties of the job
  • Treatment Planning To create radiotherapy treatment plans using Eclipse.
  • Communication & Relationship Skills Liaises with Radiographers, Physicists and other Technologists to ensure best use of the time available. Communication with patients and carers which may include help, advice and support concerning the radiotherapy process.
  • Analytical and Judgement Skills Manage and adjust own workload on a day to day basis. Ability to prioritise work to be done. Use own skills and experience to make a judgement as to how to achieve the best and most accurate planning of a patient.
  • Planning and Organisational Skills Co-ordinate a TBI treatment, from initial scan and test dose, right through to treatment (while making in-vivo measurements). Manage own workload and assist the team leader to manage the workload of the assigned work area.
  • Physical Skills The post holder must be able to work extremely accurately and to tight tolerances. There is a requirement to manipulate fine tools. Hand and eye co-ordination is paramount and an ability to work quickly and under pressure is crucial. Keyboard skills required to operate treatment systems and other software programs.
  • Responsibility for Patient and Client Care Perform routine QA checks on all treatment machines. Assist in non-routine measurements and commissioning of new equipment. Perform routine in-vivo measurements on patients during treatment.
