Job summary

ProMedical is seeking an experienced Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist to support an NHS trust in the East Midlands on a locum basis. You will provide high-quality diagnostic reporting and specialist imaging input to support patient assessment and management.

The role requires reporting across MRI, CT, ultrasound and plain film, with MDT collaboration and adherence to NHS governance. Start date is 26 October 2026 and contract runs until 31 March 2027, with dedicated ProMedical support

Qualifications

• GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Specialist Register status in Clinical Radiology or equivalent consultant experience.
• Experience delivering consultant-level radiology services.
• Demonstrated expertise in musculoskeletal imaging and reporting.
• Strong diagnostic interpretation with clinical decision-making.
• Ability to work within an NHS multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Report musculoskeletal imaging examinations and provide diagnostic opinions.
• Interpret MRI, CT, ultrasound and plain film imaging for MSK conditions.
• Support investigation and diagnosis of MSK injuries and pathologies.
• Provide specialist radiological advice to referring clinicians for treatment planning.
• Undertake image-guided MSK procedures where competent.
• Collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and other teams.
• Contribute to MDT meetings and patient record-keeping.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality diagnostic reporting and specialist imaging input to support the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions.

Working collaboratively with radiology colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, the consultant will contribute to timely reporting, effective clinical decision-making and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

The Role

The successful candidate will deliver consultant-level musculoskeletal radiology services, providing specialist diagnostic expertise across a range of musculoskeletal imaging investigations.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Reporting musculoskeletal imaging examinations and providing accurate diagnostic opinions.

• Interpreting MRI, CT, ultrasound and plain film imaging relevant to musculoskeletal conditions.

• Supporting the investigation and diagnosis of musculoskeletal injuries, degenerative conditions and other relevant pathologies.

• Providing specialist radiological advice to referring clinicians to support treatment planning.

• Undertaking image-guided musculoskeletal procedures where appropriate to the service and the candidate's competencies.

• Collaborating with orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and other relevant clinical teams.

• Contributing to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings where required.

• Maintaining accurate clinical records and adhering to NHS clinical governance, reporting standards and patient safety requirements.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.

• Specialist Register status in Clinical Radiology, or relevant Consultant-level experience.

• Previous experience delivering consultant-level radiology services.

• Demonstrable expertise in musculoskeletal imaging and reporting.

• Strong diagnostic interpretation and clinical decision-making skills.

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary NHS environment.

Desirable Requirements

• Previous NHS consultant experience.

• Experience reporting a broad range of musculoskeletal MRI, CT, ultrasound and plain film examinations.

• Experience contributing to musculoskeletal MDT meetings.

• Experience in image-guided musculoskeletal procedures, where relevant to the service.
