The post holder will be an experienced Radiographer working autonomously, being accountable for your own professional actions. The post holder will provide local clinical leadership to the site Radiology team, and be responsible for maintaining clinical standards and governance, completing local audits and surveys such as fire safety, hand hygiene and infection control, COSHH and RIDDOR regulations, amongst others. The post holder will be responsible for teams under the direction of the Modality Lead Radiographers, and Site Lead Radiographer. You will supervise, mentor and appraise less experienced Radiographers, Apprentices and Students. The post holder will be the coordinator during emergency situations in Radiology and will be responsible for handing over the patient and all relevant clinical information to clinical personnel taking over. The role requires cross-site working across CDC sites: Heatherwood Elective Centre in Ascot, and the soon-to-be-opened Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC ) in Slough at the site of Upton Hospital. You may also be required to attend Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.
Key Responsibilities
- A Radiographer in Charge post working in the Radiology department in the Slough CDC at Upton Hospital.
- Responsible for supporting the CT Modality Lead Radiographer and Plain Film Modality Lead Radiographer.
- Responsible for quality and adherence to Trust policies.
- To assist in the training and supervision of the Radiographers and RDAs.
- To ensure equipment is used in a safe and correct manner.
- The post holder will be expected to work at all CDC sites and to ensure that image quality is of a high standard and audit this as appropriate.
- To attend any and all relevant site based meetings to aid in operation of site.
- To work in accordance with the local rules, Ionising Radiation regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, and the Trust's Policies and Procedures.
- To report promptly any equipment faults to the relevant Modality Lead Radiographers.
- To ensure that patient care and comfort is always maintained to the highest professional standard.
- To liaise with equipment manufacturers and users and arrange for repair and servicing equipment when required.
- To participate in Clinical Audit when required.
- Responsible for maintaining CPD and own level of competence.
- Assist with developing Radiographers training in all aspects of the service.
- Assist with mentoring, induction, and appraisal of staff.
- To maintain professional standards in accordance with the College of Radiographers policy.
- To work under IR(ME)R regulations.
- To take responsibility for own personal development and education.
- To actively participate in training programmes for all members of staff.
- To maintain and awareness of best practice both professionally and technically.
Qualifications and Experience
- D.C.R. or B.Sc. Radiography or equivalent.
- HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of CPD.
- SoR Accredited IV Course Certificate.
- Experience in CT Scanning & Plain Film X-Ray.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to teach and mentor junior staff members, students and apprentices.
- Ability to lead a changing team daily, to ensure standards and information is fed back to all staff who rotate.
- 3 years post qualification.
- Experience in MRI.
- Experience in Cardiac CT Scanning.
- Experience with GE CT Scanners.
- Experience leading small teams.
Skills
- Able to undertake majority of CT scans autonomously.
- Able to manage deteriorating patient and handover relevant clinical information.
- Undertake clinical and quality audits consistently and report findings.
- Able to vet and protocol Outpatient CT requests.
- Able to manage workload in all clinical settings in Radiology, up to date technical CT knowledge.
- Evidence necessity of clinical audit.
- Evidence radiation safety understanding.
- Demonstrate necessity of clinical audits and quality audits such as infection control audits and compliance, fire safety checks etc.
- Ability to undertake appraisals as appraiser for junior staff.
- Ability to manage workload in all clinical settings.
