We have an exciting opportunity for a Radioactive Waste Specialist to join Rolls‑Royce Submarines Limited based in Derby.

In this role you will provide specialist advice on radioactive waste and environmental matters within the Core Manufacturing Nuclear Licensed Sites. Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. What you will be doing

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the EPR Radioactive Substances Regulations and relevant aspects of the Installations permits and Site Licence conditions, transport legislation and supporting management arrangements. Specific areas of work will be:

  • Optimisation of disposal routes for radioactive wastes and conventional wastes, including permitted discharges.
  • Characterisation of materials and items. (It is therefore desirable to have an understanding of the Nuclear Industry Guides and the processes and statistical methods described).
  • Support the effective deployment of company‑wide policies, processes, systems and procedures ensuring that at all times the business remains compliant.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent in relevant discipline OR hold or be working towards a professional qualification in relevant area.
  • Significant Experience working on Nuclear Licensed Sites in the areas of Radioactive Waste and Environmental Management is desirable.
  • To hold or be willing to work towards Radioactive Waste Advisor status.

For more than 60 years Rolls‑Royce Submarines has designed, supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant, providing power for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines.

To work for Rolls‑Royce Submarines an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't already have it. Due to the nature of work we conduct, we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
