Job summary

A leading defence engineering firm is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh or Newcastle for a 12-month project. The role involves evaluating radar performance, extracting insights from data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on cutting-edge defence solutions. Strong proficiency in MATLAB and knowledge of the V-model lifecycle are essential. Applicants must be eligible for UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. The compensation is £70 per hour via Umbrella.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability with MATLAB, especially in analyzing large datasets.
  • Knowledge of the full V-model lifecycle with emphasis on implementation, integration, testing, and V&V.
  • Experience in supporting engineering tests/trials and processing large datasets.
  • Capability in safety-critical systems.
  • Understanding of radar or sensor systems is beneficial.

Overview

Principal Systems Engineer

Location: Edinburgh or Newcastle

Duration: 12 months

Rate: £70 per hour Umbrella

SC Clearance Required

Responsibilities
  • Work with large datasets from rig and flight trials and use analytical techniques to evaluate radar performance against requirements and raise Systems Problem Reports (SPR) for detailed investigation.
  • Apply signal processing, image processing, and object classification techniques to extract actionable insights.
  • Investigate system anomalies using real trial data, ensuring performance meets specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and prototype cutting-edge defence solutions.
  • Contribute to System Verification & Validation (V&V) activities as part of the continuous development / enhancement of the Radar System.
Proven Ability / Key Skills
  • Strong proven ability with MATLAB, particularly for use in analysis of large data sets.
  • Full V-model lifecycle knowledge, with an emphasis on the middle to right side (implementation, integration, testing, and V&V).
  • Previous proven ability within a similar industry and supporting engineering tests / trials and processing of large data sets.
  • Proven ability in safety-critical systems.
  • Understanding of radar or complex sensor systems would be beneficial.
