Job summary

Coates Recruitment is recruiting a Software Engineer in Cambridge to join a growing medical device team. You will design and develop software applications, explore AI and automation to support R&D, and work closely with engineers to implement practical solutions.

The role offers ownership of projects from conception to deployment in a site-based setting. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of software experience, strong Python/Java skills, and an interest in AI and emerging tech within an SME

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' commercial software development experience.
• Strong programming skills, particularly Python, Java or similar.
• Interest in AI, machine learning and emerging technologies.
• Experience with software development, testing and CI/CD.
• Background in Software Engineering, Computer Science or an engineering-related degree.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software applications and tools.
• Explore how AI, automation and emerging technologies can support R&D and product development.
• Work with engineers to understand technical challenges and develop practical solutions.
• Improve existing systems, processes and software capabilities.
• Take ownership of projects from ideas through development, testing and implementation.
