Job summary

CelLBxHealth plc in Guildford seeks a Research and Development Group Lead to provide scientific and operational leadership across design, development, optimisation and validation of novel molecular and imaging assays for research, pharma services and clinical diagnostics. This role bridges Scientific, Quality and Commercial functions with governance for risk, documentation and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biomedical Sciences required.
• 3+ years of industrial experience developing and leading molecular/imaging assays (NGS, digital PCR, IF, FISH).
• Experience in regulated environments, quality systems, and clinical validation strategy.
• Strong leadership, communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the scientific strategy and technology roadmap for molecular and imaging-based assay development.
• Set direction for design, optimisation and validation of novel assay platforms across modalities.
• Own delivery accountability across development projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee Quality Management System compliance (ISO13485/ISO15189) and NPD governance; audit-readiness and regulatory defensibility.
• Represent R&D at senior levels in cross-functional forums to integrate new assays into service portfolio.
• Act as primary scientific liaison with clients, partners and external regulatory bodies (UKAS, MHRA, HTA, CLIA).
• Shape commercial documentation (data transfer agreements, statements of work, master service agreements).
• Influence resourcing, prioritisation and investment decisions across the department.
• Lead knowledge-transfer and capability-building initiatives; develop a high-performing team.
