Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a qualified R&D Analytical Scientist for a lab-based position in Slough. The role involves supporting multiple projects in analytical development and sample analysis. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge in protein chemistry and hands-on experience with HPLC and Electrophoresis. This is a 12-month contract with a pay rate of £18.49/hour.

Qualifications

  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of protein chemistry.
  • Hands-on experience with HPLC, Electrophoresis, and GC/GC-MS.
  • Recent graduates may be considered, but industry experience is preferred.

R&D Analytical Scientist

Location: Slough

Contract Length: 12 months

Working Hours: 37.5 hours/week

Start Date: December (ASAP)

Pay Rate: £18.49/hour

About the Role

This is a fully lab-based position within the R&D Analytics team – Remote working is not available. The successful candidate will support multiple projects in a matrix organisational structure and contribute to analytical development and sample analysis in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform experimental work, analyse data, and report findings.
  • Plan and complete assigned tasks within required timeframes.
  • Liaise with scientists and project leads to close out technical reviews.
  • Interpret data against specifications and identify trends.
  • Communicate progress and escalations to Line Manager or Project Lead.
  • Maintain lab operations including stock taking and ordering.
  • Document work in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and administrative tasks.
Technical Requirements
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of protein chemistry.
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • HPLC (e.g., size exclusion)
    • Electrophoresis (e.g., CE SDS, icIEF)
    • GC/GC‑MS experience is a plus.
    • Familiarity with LC‑MS/MS methods for Proteomics, Metabolomics, or Lipidomics is desirable.
Education & Experience
  • BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Bioengineering.
  • Recent graduates may be considered, but industry experience is preferred.
Training & Development

A tailored training plan will be implemented upon joining, with the expectation that the candidate will begin effectively supporting Protein & Process Analytics activities within 2 months.
