Quantity Surveyor - Residential Infrastructure / Groundworks

Wigan - £45,000 - £65,000 + Package

Your new company:

Our client is a well-established civil engineering and surfacing contractor operating across the North West. They specialise in delivering infrastructure, groundworks, drainage, adoptable roads, and external works for major residential developers. With a strong reputation for quality and long-term partnerships with leading housebuilders, they play a key role in bringing large-scale housing developments to life.

Your new role:

Our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support residential-led infrastructure and groundworks projects. Working from their Wigan base, you will take commercial responsibility for the delivery of civil engineering works on new housing developments‑covering drainage, roads, foundations, utilities, and external works. This is an excellent opportunity for a QS who enjoys a varied workload and wants to be involved in the essential early‑phase construction that underpins residential schemes.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the commercial and financial aspects of groundworks and infrastructure packages on residential developments.
  • Preparing budgets, BOQs, cost plans, and ongoing financial forecasts.
  • Conducting valuations, variations, interim payments, and final accounts.
  • Procuring subcontractors, negotiating terms, and managing commercial relationships.
  • Monitoring project expenditure and ensuring works remain financially on track.
  • Working closely with site teams and residential developer clients to support smooth project delivery.
  • Evaluating drawings, specifications, and design changes with commercial implications.
  • Ensuring compliance with NEC/JCT contracts and maintaining accurate project documentation.
  • Supporting value engineering initiatives to enhance project efficiency and profitability.
What you will need to succeed
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within residential groundworks, civils, infrastructure, or external works.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts.
  • Background working with or for residential developers, groundworks contractors, or civil engineering firms.
  • Solid commercial and financial management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple live projects.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and commercial management software.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field (Degree/HND preferred).
