Quantity Surveyor – Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £46,030 to £62,544; Locations: Maidstone or Basingstoke
Our client, a leading organisation in the UK’s transport infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support its £1bn annual investment programme for maintaining the Strategic Road Network. The role will primarily be based in our Guildford, Basingstoke, or Maidstone office and will follow a flexible hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the commercial and contract management of a portfolio of schemes, varying in value from £1m to over £30m.
- Lead on the commercial management of cyclic, reactive, and minor capital works delivered through a long‑term contract worth approximately £30m per annum, working closely with the wider regional commercial team, operational colleagues, and our service provider.
- Provide contractual advice to the business and the service delivery team, acting as the first line of escalation for contract and/or commercial matters.
- Deliver day‑to‑day contract and commercial management, including managing communication and notifications to timescales, valuing compensation events and early warnings, and reviewing and agreeing final accounts using the CEMAR contract management portal.
- Assess payment applications using the Enterprise Asset Management portal.
- Lead regular cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions.
- Monitor actual costs against budget and prepare contract forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities for Opex and Capex budgets.
- Act as a line manager and mentor to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduates, and Apprentices, supporting their professional development.
About You
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or another relevant technical qualification (may be waived for those with a recognised professional qualification).
- Relevant professional qualification at Chartered/Member status (e.g. MRICS, MCInstCES, or equivalent).
- Substantial and directly relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with demonstrated contract administration expertise, preferably using NEC contract forms.
- Experience delivering quantity surveying/commercial functions, ideally in a civil engineering or infrastructure environment.
- Excellent commercial awareness and a proven track record of successfully delivering multiple projects in a comparable environment, working for either the client or contractor.
- Proficient user of Excel and familiar with contract management and administration software systems (e.g. CEMAR, Confirm).
