Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering & Highways

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 plus comprehensive package

Location: Manchester (North West focus)

Our client is a highly regarded civil engineering and highways contractor with over 75 years of experience delivering projects across the North West. Two decades of repeat business, frameworks with key local authorities and a family‑owned, values‑led culture create a strong foundation for growth and stability.

Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial elements of civil engineering and highways schemes from start to finish.
  • Prepare valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and cash flow to ensure profitability.
  • Procure and manage subcontractor packages, including negotiation and agreement of terms.
  • Produce accurate cost reports and forecasts for senior management.
  • Liaise closely with project teams, clients and stakeholders to ensure smooth financial delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement within the commercial department.
What you will need to succeed
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Office and relevant quantity surveying software.
  • A proactive, organised and commercially minded approach.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
