Pro-Group Recruitment is pleased to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established, reputable fire safety business, looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor specialising in M&E and Fire Protection. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful, growing fire protection business in a key commercial role.
This role is critical to ensuring the commercial success of the company’s fire protection and wider M&E projects.
You will manage:
- Cost planning
- Commercial reporting
- Contractual compliance
- Risk analysis during the pre‑construction phase
- Support delivery teams with accurate and seamless handovers
This position suits a QS with robust technical understanding of M&E and fire safety systems, combined with strong commercial awareness and confidence in client‑facing situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage detailed M&E cost plans across labour, plant, and specialist fire protection materials
- Assess and compare subcontractor quotations, ensuring alignment with specifications and challenging assumptions where necessary
- Draft, review, and administer contracts (JCT/NEC), with a focus on M&E scope and deliverables
- Manage valuations, variations, change control, and applications for payment from pre‑construction through to handover
- Provide commercial risk assessments specific to M&E packages, considering compliance, design changes, and supply chain factors
- Support technical design reviews, ensuring all cost implications are communicated and captured
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and engineers to produce cost‑effective, commercially robust solutions
- Lead commercial input in client meetings, progress reviews, and contract negotiations
- Mentor junior estimators and surveyors, promoting our clients methodology and standards
- Deputise for the Pre‑Construction Manager when needed

- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within M&E, building services, or fire protection (essential)
- Strong understanding of M&E systems, fire compliance, and buildability considerations
- Solid knowledge of contract frameworks, including NEC and JCT
- Strong financial and analytical skills with experience tracking M&E project costs
- Confident negotiator with experience managing complex subcontractor packages
- Detail‑focused, proactive, and confident in risk identification and problem solving
- Ambitious, resilient, and eager to progress into senior pre‑construction leadership
