Job summary

Wessex Water is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial aspects of infrastructure projects across the region. The role covers inception through final accounts, including change, risk, tender analysis, and cost reporting.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Designers, Engineers and Estimators, attend senior financial meetings, and ensure value for the company. Hybrid working across Kingston Seymour, Bath and Bristol.

Qualifications

  • Degree in quantity surveying or a closely related field.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure projects within water or similar sectors.
  • Membership to RICS/ICES is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to interpret design details and value engineering options.
  • Experience with change, risk management, tender and final accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects from inception to final accounts.
  • Lead contract change, risk, and payment applications.
  • Lead tender analysis, interviews and reporting.
  • Monitor design and procurement progress with PMs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, engineers and estimators.
  • Attend regular financial meetings with senior staff.
  • Manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Own monthly cost and commercial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial procedures and forecasts.
  • Work to financial targets and deadlines and interpret project programmes.

What you'll do

The role involves working on projects across the whole Wessex Water region. This is an opportunity to manage all commercial aspects of projects, from initial inception and tender through to the settlement of final accounts.

Typically, you will:

  • manage all aspects of contract responsibilities including pre and post-contract duties for projects
  • manage contract change, opportunity and risk, payment applications and final accounts, including leading valuation of variations and resolving claims
  • lead tender analysis, interviews and reporting
  • monitor design and procurement progress in collaboration with Project Managers and Planners
  • work closely with other team members, such as Project Managers, Designers, Engineers and Estimators
  • attend regular financial meetings with senior members of staff
  • manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
  • owning and updating monthly cost and commercial reports
  • ensure compliance with commercial procedures and maintain accurate forecasts
  • work to financial targets and deadlines, interpret project programmes, understand risk, and react to demands to ensure the best value for the company.

The location for this role will be a mixture of Kingston Seymour, Bath, Bristol and home-based.

What you'll need

As a self-sufficient Quantity Surveyor, you will have previous experience delivering key infrastructure schemes and will have worked within the water industry or a similar industry environment.

To succeed in this role, you should ideally have:

  • quantity surveying experience in the construction industry, preferably with experience in the NEC Suite of Contracts
  • completed a degree in quantity surveying or a similar construction-related qualification
  • membership to the RICS/ICES (desirable but not essential)
  • strong attention to detail, self-motivation, a problem-solving nature and a drive to succeed
  • the ability to interpret technical/design details to assist in problem-solving and valuing engineering options as appropriate
  • experience with change and risk management, as well as tender and final account negotiation skills
  • good people skills, including leadership skills and the ability to foster professional relations with others
  • a strong customer focus, while also being a team player
  • a sound knowledge of health and safety related to the role.
