Job summary

The Opportunity

3Sixty Talent Management is recruiting on behalf of an established client within the commercial construction sector for an experienced Pre-Construction Estimator to join their team in Bedford.

Our client delivers a wide range of projects across commercial construction, building services, fit-out, refurbishment, commercial interiors and electrical contracting.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator who enjoys being involved from the early stages of a project, working closely with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to produce accurate and competitive tenders.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the pre-construction process, helping to ensure projects are accurately costed, commercially viable and ready for successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates and competitive tender submissions for commercial construction projects valued up to £250,000.
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications and other project documentation.
• Complete detailed material and labour take-offs to establish accurate project costs.
• Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations.
• Work closely with clients to clarify project requirements and specifications.
• Raise and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) where necessary.
• Understand construction methods, project sequencing and associated costs.
• Use internal estimating and quotation systems to prepare detailed cost proposals.
• Attend site surveys, client meetings and project visits when required.
• Participate in tender reviews, project handovers and close-out meetings.
• Support the wider business with pre-construction planning and provide regular progress updates.

Skills and Experience Required

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of commercial construction estimating who can confidently manage the tendering process and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience in an Estimator or Pre-Construction Estimator position within commercial construction.
• A minimum NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating).
• Experience preparing estimates and managing the full tender submission process.
• The ability to interpret technical drawings and construction specifications.
• A good understanding of labour, material and subcontractor costs.
• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Confident communication and negotiation skills.
• Good IT skills and the ability to learn internal estimating systems.
• A proactive approach, with the ability to manage deadlines and work independently.
