Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience in a consultancy environment is required.
  • RICS accredited degree; MRICS or working towards.
  • Experience with JCT contracts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QS software (CostX, Bluebeam).
  • UK driving licence held.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day delivery of projects as single point of contact.
  • Lead client-facing meetings with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide cost advice at RIBA stages including feasibility, cost plans and pre-tender estimates.
  • Advise on cost implications of construction methods and materials to keep within budget.
  • Undertake measurement to defined standards.
  • Provide guidance on contracts, procurement strategy, risk management, value engineering and tendering.
  • Prepare, issue, evaluate and report tenders; draft contract documents.
  • Manage project costs during construction and negotiate final accounts; agree monthly valuations.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and value post-contract variations.
  • Conduct cost research and market testing; assist QA compliance.
  • Develop relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.

Job description

Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor wishing to progress their career, to join our cost management team in London. You will work closely with senior team members, supporting the delivery of a variety of projects and clients across London and the wider business. Projects range from £500k - £300m in value, predominantly within the Education & Life Sciences, Commercial, Healthcare, Residential & Heritage sectors. What you need to do to be effective in this role
  • Manage and be the single point of contact for the day‑to‑day delivery of projects.
  • Lead client‑facing meetings, dealing with multi‑disciplined teams and project delivery.
  • Provide building cost advice at various RIBA Stages including preparation of feasibility estimates, cost plans, pre‑tender estimates and the like.
  • Advise clients and project design teams on the cost implications of different construction methods, alternative choices of materials and size and quality of the project to ensure that each element is reconciled with the cost plan allowance and the overall project remains within budget.
  • Undertake measurement in accordance with defined standards.
  • Provide advice on contracts, procurement strategy, risk management, value engineering and the overall tendering process.
  • Prepare, issue, evaluate and report on tenders.
  • Prepare contract documentation.
  • Manage the costs of projects during the construction stage and negotiate final accounts.
  • Agreement of monthly valuations.
  • Preparation of monthly cost reports.
  • Valuing and agreeing post‑contract variations.
  • Undertake cost research, market testing, data capture etc.
  • Assist with compliance with QA requirements.
  • Develop relationships with existing clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Develop new relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role
  • Relevant experience gained in a consultancy – which will be discussed at interview.
  • RICS accredited degree or equivalent.
  • Either MRICS or actively working towards.
  • Experience using JCT suite of contracts.
  • Confidence communicating with Clients & project teams both in person and during online meetings.
  • Experience of pre and post contract quantity surveying duties including procurement and tendering, variation assessment and cost reporting.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience of relevant QS software applications, CostX, Bluebeam etc.
  • Holder of UK driving licence.
