Job summary

  • Ability to run projects up to at least £1 million in value.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with senior management on Contract and Commercial issues.
  • Maintain accurate financial control systems and report Cost/Value reconciliation monthly.
  • Advise on financial aspects of contracts to maximise valuations, certifications and timely payments.
  • Monitor site progress and issue notices in line with contract procedures and timescales.
  • Prepare forecasts of cost and value for all trades, monitor and report.
  • Prepare Preliminaries budgets with contract staff and monitor/report.
  • Vet quotations to ensure compliance with specifications and obtain competitive bids.
  • Hold monthly meetings to agree variations; avoid leaving to final account stage.
  • Ensure quotations for additional works are accurate and timely.
  • Manage subcontractors accounts to enhance contract performance.
  • Attend progress and other meetings representing the company’s interests.
  • Assist site management in securing labour, materials and subcontractors to complete on time and within budget.

Job description

Deanston Cooper is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to work for a high successful main contractor based in Glasgow. The company specialise in new build, refurb and fit out projects up to £7 million, across the Central Belt. Sectors include industrial, commercial, education, healthcare and retail.

Your duties as Quantity Surveyor will include:
  • To liaise with senior management and advise on all matters relating to Contract and Commercial issues.
  • To maintain accurate financial control systems and report monthly on Cost/Value Reconciliation.
  • To liaise with and advise on all financial aspects of contracts, ensuring that valuations are maximised, certified and paid on time.
  • To monitor progress on site and take a lead issuing required notices in accordance with contract procedures and timescales.
  • To prepare forecasts of cost and value of all trades including Preliminaries, monitor and report on same.
  • To prepare Preliminaries budgets in association with contract staff, monitor and report on same.
  • To ensure that all quotations are carefully vetted and comply with the specification ensuring that the most competitive bids are obtained.
  • To ensure that monthly meetings are held to agree variations and not left to the final account stage.
  • To ensure that quotations for additional works are accurate and received on time.
  • To manage subcontractors accounts accurately and effectively to enhance contract performance.
  • Attend Progress and other meetings as necessary to represent the company's interests.
  • To assist the site management team, as required, securing labour, materials and Sub-contractors to ensure that contracts are completed on time and within budget.
