Job description
Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) background to join our commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of cost and contract management for E&I packages across our projects — ensuring accurate financial control, value optimisation, and compliance with contract requirements.

This is a key commercial role within our delivery team, working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to support the successful execution of complex industrial and construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documentation for Electrical & Instrumentation works.
  • Conduct cost planning, value engineering, and commercial risk assessments to optimise project value.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, including preparation of enquiry documentation, tender evaluations, and contract negotiations.
  • Administer contracts (e.g. NEC, FIDIC, bespoke) including variations, claims, and change management.
  • Prepare and submit monthly valuations, progress applications, and cost reports.
  • Track and forecast project costs, budgets, and cash flow.
  • Support project teams in change control and ensure all variations are captured and valued correctly.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure commercial alignment and transparency.
  • Manage and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all commercial activities comply with company procedures, contractual obligations, and industry standards.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor in Electrical & Instrumentation, MEP, or industrial construction sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems, scopes, and terminology.
  • Proven experience working with E&I subcontractors, suppliers, and technical teams.
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (e.g. NEC, FIDIC, JCT).
  • Advanced Excel and cost management software skills.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in oil & gas, pharmaceutical, energy, or data centre environments.
  • Background with main contractor or EPC contractor preferred.
  • Knowledge of HV/LV systems, control panels, cabling, instrumentation loops, and commissioning phases.
  • Understanding of project controls, estimating tools, and earned value management (EVM).
