Job summary

The Shore Group in Hove, East Sussex is seeking an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our Civils division. You will manage commercial aspects of multiple civils projects, ensuring profitability and contractual compliance, with a focus on effective cost control and stakeholder liaison.

We welcome candidates from various construction backgrounds who can demonstrate strong commercial acumen and a drive to develop within civils.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related field.
• Membership of RICS/CIOB or working towards accreditation is advantageous.
• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction, civils, infrastructure, or related sectors.
• Strong contract administration and commercial management understanding.
• Experience managing project costs and producing reports.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial aspects of projects from pre-construction to final account.
• Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating subcontractor packages and procurement schedules.
• Producing accurate cost forecasts, valuations, and financial reports.
• Monitoring project costs, identifying commercial risks, and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Submitting client applications, variations, and final accounts.
• Managing subcontractor payments and ensuring contractual compliance.
• Assisting with tender reviews, cost planning, and budget management.

As our Civils division continues to expand, we are seeking an ambitious and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our team based in Hove. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of medium to large-scale civil engineering projects across Sussex and the surrounding areas.

The Role

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple sized civils projects, ensuring they are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in line with contractual obligations.

We are open to considering candidates from a variety of construction backgrounds who can demonstrate strong commercial acumen and a desire to develop within the civils sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial aspects of projects from pre-construction through to final account.
• Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating subcontractor packages and procurement schedules.
• Producing accurate cost forecasts, valuations, and financial reports.
• Monitoring project costs, identifying commercial risks, and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Preparing and submitting client applications, variations, and final accounts.
• Managing subcontractor payments and ensuring contractual compliance.
• Assisting with tender reviews, cost planning, and budget management.
• Working closely with operational teams to support successful project delivery.
• Maintaining effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
• Ensuring compliance with company procedures, contractual requirements, and industry standards.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Membership of RICS, CIOB, or working towards professional accreditation is advantageous.

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, civils, infrastructure, groundworks, or a related sector.
• Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial management principles.
• Experience managing project costs and reports.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management software.
