Job summary

Optima Site Solutions Ltd is recruiting an Assistant / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join a residential contractor in Hampshire. This full-time role supports projects from subcontract procurement through final accounts, with a mix of office and site visits across Hampshire.

You will work with the commercial and delivery teams, developing commercial skills and taking on more responsibility within residential building projects.

Qualifications

• Residential construction experience, including new-build or refurbishment.
• Experience supporting or managing subcontract packages.
• Understanding of JCT contracts and commercial processes.
• Strong numerical skills, cost checking and attention to detail.
• Excellent Excel skills and organised record-keeping.
• Clear communication and ability to build relationships.
• Full UK driving licence and travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Prepare subcontract enquiry packages, compare quotations and support subcontractor appointments.
• Monitor package costs and maintain accurate commercial records.
• Assess changes to the works and prepare cost submissions.
• Prepare valuations and applications for payment; support final accounts.
• Contribute to monthly cost reports, forecasts and budget reviews.
• Review contract requirements and highlight potential financial risks.

Assistant / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor - Residential Construction Location: Hampshire Salary: £45,000-£50,000 per annum, including car allowance Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Optima Site Solutions is recruiting an Assistant / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join a residential contractor in Hampshire. This opportunity would suit an experienced Assistant QS ready to take on more responsibility, or an Intermediate QS looking to broaden their commercial experience across residential building projects. You will work alongside the commercial and delivery teams, supporting projects from subcontract procurement through to final accounts. The role combines office-based work with visits to sites across Hampshire.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Putting together subcontract enquiry packages, comparing quotations and supporting subcontractor appointments.
• Monitoring package costs and maintaining accurate commercial records.
• Assessing changes to the works and preparing associated cost submissions.
• Preparing valuations and applications for payment.
• Contributing to monthly cost reports, forecasts and budget reviews.
• Supporting the agreement of subcontractor and client final accounts.
• Reviewing contract requirements and highlighting potential financial risks.
• Working closely with site teams, clients and consultants to resolve commercial queries.

About You

We are looking for someone with practical quantity surveying experience within residential construction or main contracting, ideally including new-build or refurbishment work.

You should bring:

• Experience supporting or managing subcontract packages.
• An understanding of JCT contracts and commercial processes.
• Confidence working with figures, checking costs and identifying discrepancies.
• Good Excel skills and an organised approach to record-keeping.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
• The initiative to take ownership of tasks and develop your responsibilities.
• A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to project sites.
