Job summary

Certain Advantage is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor on a contract basis in the South West, UK. You will deliver robust cost management across the full project lifecycle, ensuring financial control, compliance and high-quality reporting.

You will collaborate with the client to shape QS capability, support portfolio projects, develop robust cost plans, maintain budgets, and lead contract administration and procurement activities. Strong numeracy and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering cost management across engineering projects.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specs and contract terms.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and supplier evaluation.
  • Analytical with strong numerical accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with client to shape and develop QS capability.
  • Support portfolio projects and strategy for QS deployment.
  • Develop robust cost plans, estimates and expenditure profiles.
  • Maintain budgets, forecasts and commercial reporting.
  • Lead contract administration incl. variations and change control.
  • Support procurement through cost evaluation and tender reviews.
  • Monitor expenditure vs baseline and identify risks.
  • Produce cost models, pricing schedules and supporting docs.

Quantity Surveyor

South West, UK

Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Quantity Surveyor on a contract basis.

You’ll be responsible for delivering robust cost management across the full engineering project lifecycle, ensuring accurate financial control, commercial compliance and high‑quality reporting.

What will you be doing?
  • Collaborate with the client to shape and develop future Quantity Surveying (QS) capability.
  • Support portfolio-level projects and contribute to strategy for QS deployment and site‑wide supportability.
  • Develop robust cost plans, engineering estimates, and expenditure profiles.
  • Maintain accurate budgets, forecasts, and commercial performance reporting.
  • Lead contract administration activities, including variation management and change control.
  • Support procurement processes through cost evaluation, tender assessments, and supplier reviews.
  • Monitor project expenditure against baseline costs and proactively identify potential risks.
  • Produce structured cost models, pricing schedules, and supporting commercial documentation.
A couple of things you should know:
  • Experience supporting commercial, cost, or contract management within engineering, construction, or technical project environments.
  • Strong understanding of cost planning, estimating, and financial control across engineered scopes of work.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contract terms, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier evaluation, and contractor management within engineering supply chains.
  • Highly analytical with strong numerical capability and a keen attention to detail.
During an interview, you may be asked about:
  • Your experience in Defence, Nuclear, Rail, Energy, or infrastructure environments.
  • Your familiarity with engineering cost management tools, ERP systems or project controls platforms.
