Overview

The Client: A respected and long-established specialist contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction solutions across main contracting and some specialist fit-out work. With a healthy order book, long-term client relationships and a growing portfolio of technically complex schemes, they are now seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Colchester.

The Role: As Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of a variety of projects across the region. You'll be responsible for managing costs from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal delivery teams. The position is open to candidates at intermediate through to managing level, offering scope to shape the role around your experience and career aspirations.

Responsibilities
  • Take commercial responsibility for projects from tender through to completion.
  • Prepare cost plans, budgets, valuations, and final accounts.
  • Procure subcontractors, review quotations, and prepare contract documentation.
  • Monitor costs, variations and cash flow, ensuring projects remain on budget.
  • Liaise with site teams, clients, and consultants to resolve commercial and contractual matters.
  • Produce accurate monthly reports and forecasts for senior management.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key supply chain partners.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team if at senior level.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction sector, ideally within a main contracting environment.
  • Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
  • Excellent numeracy, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction-related software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Based within commuting distance of Colchester.
