Job summary

Nrl is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for a major engineering project delivery team. Hybrid working available from Warrington or Chorley. You will manage change control, compensation events and subcontractor engagements, ensuring commercial compliance across NEC contracts.

The role requires strong commercial and risk management skills, with experience in regulated industries and complex contracts. Applicants from infrastructure, utilities, or nuclear sectors are welcome.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor with relevant engineering/infrastructure experience.
  • Experience managing compensation events and change control on NEC contracts.
  • Strong subcontract management and procurement engagement.
  • Experience across client and contractor commercial arrangements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial support across project delivery, including change control and compensation events.
  • Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts and ensure contractual compliance.
  • Identify, price, negotiate, and agree compensation events and variations.
  • Administer Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and contractual communications.
  • Support procurement and tendering activities with robust subcontractor engagement.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier commercial performance throughout delivery.
  • Review and certify applications for payment, invoices, and final accounts.
  • Monitor and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Maintain commercial records and change registers (e.g., CEMAR).
  • Support Project Managers with all commercial and contractual matters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Warrington or Chorley (Hybrid Working Available)

Sector: Nuclear / Engineering / Infrastructure

Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major engineering project delivery team. Whilst experience within the nuclear sector would be advantageous, we are open to candidates from infrastructure, construction, utilities, energy, rail, defence, or other highly regulated industries. The successful candidate will have strong commercial and contract management experience, particularly around change management, compensation events, subcontract management, and NEC contracts. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure commercial compliance, maximise value, and minimise commercial risk throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide commercial support across project delivery, including change control, compensation events, contractual notices, and commercial governance.
  • Manage and administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts.

Essential Experience
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within engineering, construction, infrastructure, utilities, defence, energy, or nuclear environments.
  • Strong understanding of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
  • Proven experience managing compensation events, variations, and change control processes.
  • Experience working with both client-side and contractor/supplier-side commercial arrangements.
  • Strong subcontract management experience.
  • Experience managing commercial risk and contract compliance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work within complex project environments and manage multiple commercial priorities.
Desirable Experience
  • Nuclear industry experience.
  • Experience using CEMAR.
  • Experience supporting major projects or programmes.
  • Understanding of regulated or highly-compliant industries.
  • Experience managing complex supply chains and subcontractor claims.
