Job summary

Qualifications

Quantity Surveyor - Job Description

Department: Construction Division
Reports To: Senior Surveyor, Managing Surveyor, and/or Commercial Manager
Location: Office and Site (London)

Overview

This role is responsible for maintaining and improving project profitability, ensuring all financial dealings are handled in line with company policies. The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in managing budgets, contracts, and financial controls, while protecting the organisation's interests and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare budgets and manage target costs for construction projectsli>
  • Establish work packages and oversee the procurement of subcontractors to meet project schedules.
  • Prepare and process subcontractor measurements, applications for payment, and final account agreements.
  • Manage client-side measurements, valuations, and applications for payment in collaboration with the client's representative.
  • Draft and manage correspondence with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare manage contractual claims and issue related documentation to clients and representatives for agreement.
  • Produce monthly cost reconciliations, financial forecasts, and commercial reports for senior management.
  • Provide commercial advice and prepare reports for value engineering exercises.
  • Prepare documentation and reports related to insurance and subcontractor claims.
  • Undertake any additional duties reasonably requested by management.
Person Specification
Education (Desirable)
  • Qualification in Construction or Quantity Surveying (HNC/HND or Degree level preferred).
  • Membership or working towards membership of a recognised Construction Institute.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Experience performing the full range of Quantity Surveying duties within a main contractor environment.
  • Good understanding of the construction process and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient understanding of JCT, NEC, and ACA forms of contract.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of supervising and mentoring junior surveyors when required.
  • Confident in the use of IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.
