Job summary

Trant Engineering is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support cost control, contract administration and commercial governance on complex engineering projects in the South East England region.

You will work with project teams, site managers and suppliers to manage variations, cost reporting and final accounts, using NEC4 contracts and advanced Excel skills. The role demands strong communication and the ability to juggle multiple priorities across sites.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in engineering, construction, or utilities projects.
  • Knowledge of UK contract forms, specifically NEC4.
  • Experience in cost control, subcontractor management, and variation administration.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Appropriate IT skills, specifically in Excel, with the ability to facilitate the use of formulas and pivot tables.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across projects and sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of contracts, pricing and forecasting costs.
  • Involvement in preparation of tender documents, contracts, budgets and bills of quantities.
  • Support the preparation and management of variations, compensation events, and change orders.
  • Provide guidance to project teams on contractual obligations and commercial procedures; tracking changes to design or construction works and adjust budget projections accordingly.
  • Production of subcontract procurement schedule; administer subcontractor contracts, applications for payment, and variations.
  • Assist with cost reporting, forecasts, and cash flow updates for work in progress and end cost forecasting.
  • Support final account preparation and submission.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and client standards.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation for audits and compliance.
  • Identify and escalate commercial risks to the Senior / Managing Quantity Surveyor.
  • Assist in procurement processes and ensure subcontract agreements comply with head contracts.
  • Work closely with project teams, site managers, and finance colleagues to support commercial decision-making.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers on commercial matters as required.
  • Support mentoring and development of junior commercial team members, where applicable. Monitor subcontractor performance and highlight issues to the senior commercial team.

What You’ll Be Doing
Technical Responsibilities - Commercial Support

What We’re Looking For
Essential
