Job summary

Richard James Recruitment Specialists Ltd represents a global energy trading organisation in London seeking a Risk Analyst to join the analytics team. The role focuses on daily risk analysis for the gas desk, P&L reporting, and automation of processes using machine learning and AI techniques.

You will develop reporting, monitor risk metrics (VaR, stress testing), support front office with new product approvals, and liaise with senior management on risk issues. Fluent English is required.

Qualifications

• Numerate degree in economics, maths, finance, or engineering.
• ≈2 years in risk/analyst role within commodity trading.
• Strong knowledge of risk metrics (VaR, stress testing).
• Experience with gas and power trading is preferred.
• Fluent English with clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review daily P&L and risk reports, monitor limits, and resolve issues with relevant teams.
• Support front office in approvals for new and non-standard products.
• Identify significant risks and present them to senior management.
• Provide information and commentary for bi-weekly Risk Committee meetings.
• Review changes to Endur ETRM and ensure trading controls are in place.
• Develop and enhance reporting systems for risk monitoring.

Hybrid working pattern (3/2)

An opportunity has arisen for a Risk Analyst to join a leading global energy trading organisation based in London.

This role since within the analytics team which constantly strives to improve risk procedures through automation, therefore a significant aspect of the role would be to contribute to the development of software to streamline daily processes and assist front office with system trading, using a variety of techniques including machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Alongside the automation elements, you will also be responsible for the daily analysis of the trading activities (PnL and position reporting) of the gas desk, as well as providing ad hoc support to other desks as required, notably Crude Oil Derivatives, LNG, and Power & Emissions.

Main Responsibilities:

• Preparing and reviewing daily P&L and risk reports, monitoring limits, and proactively resolving any issues in coordination with the relevant teams.
• Support front office in obtaining approval for new and non-standard products.
• Assisting in identifying significant risks within the business and ensuring they are transparent to senior management.
• Provide information and commentary for the bi-weekly Risk Committee meetings.
• Review and approve any relevant changes to the main ETRM system (Endur).
• Guarantee compliance for trading procedures with relevant controls and support when necessary internal and external audit requests.
• Participate in the enhancement of reporting and the development of reporting systems.

Skills and Experience Required:

• University degree in a numerate discipline (e.g. economics, mathematics, pure science, finance, engineering or similar).
• c.2 years’ experience in a similar Analyst / Risk role within commodity trading companies, ideally with a focus on gas & power.
• Strong knowledge of risk metrics such as VaR, stress-testing, scenario analysis.
• Good knowledge of derivatives and options.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office suite including Excel and VBA. SQL and Python would be a strong advantage.
• Knowledge of the Endur ETRM system would be an advantage.
• Strong organization skills with good attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, able to communicate concisely with senior management in the market risk function and with all stakeholders.
• Fluent level of English.
