Hi,

Are you an experienced Quality Specialist? Do you consider yourself to be proactive and an asset to a busy team? Are you based in or around Trostre?

We have a Quality Specialist role available within TATA Steel's site. Are you a product development & R&D driven individual? Liaising with the customer technical support team. If you are driven by precision and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards, we invite you to help shape our future.

Role: Quality Specialist - Coatings (Metallic)

Location: Tata Steel, Trostre, Maes-Ar-Ddafen Road, Llanelli SA14 9SD (100% site based)

Pay: £32,000, £16.86ph

Contract length: 12 months initially

Shift Patterns: All 36.5 hours per week, Monday -Thursday and Friday 08:30 - 15:45

Start: January 2026 but pending the successful result of a medical, which does require a drug and alcohol test

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate activities relating to the internal works yield performance programme and customer complaints investigations.
  • Support Manufacturing yield activities with data analysis and testing as required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Tinmill processes, quality and surface characteristics and their effect on customer components.
  • Provide input to the development of the Q&PD AOP (with the Q&PD Manager)
  • Keep abreast of best practice for Quality management Systems and continuous improvement activities. (Six sigma etc.)
  • Report and present on ongoing investigations in a standard format as outlined by the Manufacturing Support Manager. Provide a standard format for quality documents and to ensure it is followed.
  • Develop working relationships with the operational teams, and functions such as CTS and PMD, to encourage adequate liaison to achieve the team objectives.
  • Develop a strong liaison with the Process Specialists and Manufacturing Managers to prioritise the central specialist expertise applied.
  • Create and maintain appropriate monitors for Q&PD PDCA process.
  • Implement the safety activities/adherence within the manufacturing Support Team e.g. SWPs, risk assessments etc. ensuring compliance with all Company, Business and Works policies.
  • Knowledge of Automated surface inspection systems and associated data analysis.
Essential requirements
  • Degree or equivalent in Science
  • Good through process knowledge of the business and in-depth understanding of coating processes.
  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques, analytical techniques, and computational competence in data acquisition/manipulation.
  • An understanding of current technological advances and worldwide capabilities ('best practice') within the relevant coating process with understanding of Tinplate product and process developments.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement /six sigma principles.
  • Must possess good communication skills.
  • Should possess excellent IT and analytical skills, effective use of word, excel, MINITAB or similar are essential to this role.
  • Ability to assess data analysis, provide reporting and interpretation of results in a meaningful manner.
  • Individuals must have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ensure individual projects are recorded and presented in a structured format.
  • A job holder must be able to oversee complex problem analysis and present it to all levels. It is essential that work is carried out to a high level of safety and quality at all times.
