Quality Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 permanent Quality Managers in the Surgery & Associated Care Group Quality Team.

The post holder will be an experienced practitioner with expert clinical knowledge and skills especially in the area of Quality. The role requires the individual to collaborate with stakeholders who include clinical colleagues, managerial colleagues, analysts, other Quality teams and the Care Group Leadership Team for all aspects of clinical governance within the Surgery & Associated Care Group.

Main duties of the job

The post holder has responsibility for leading, maintaining and developing processes and systems within the Care Group to ensure delivery of high-quality care. This includes embedding robust governance arrangements in line with the Corporate Governance Framework which ensures standardisation and consistency across policies, templates, reporting and escalation processes.

The post holder is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Care Group Quality Service, which is both responsive and accurate, providing safe and effective care to our patients. This will include engaging and facilitating effective quality governance processes and oversight of Directorates and Services. The post holder will also engage with corporate services to enable trust oversight of quality whilst working under the direction of the Care Group Deputy Head of Quality. The post holder will be the lead and expert within the Care Group for responding to queries or enquiries providing advice and guidance as required.

Reporting to the Care Group Deputy Head of Quality, the post holder will support senior members to provide leadership and operational oversight of the Care Group Quality Team.

The post holder will be expected to work across all sites of NUH.

Job responsibilities

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Care Group Deputy Head of Quality to oversee the provision of information on quality indicators, identifying reasons and action being taken to address outlying metrics and share learning in relation to high performing metrics.
  • Oversee the provision and quality of reporting information in line with the trust quality governance reporting standards and schedules.
  • Provide accurate reports and appropriate escalation of key trends and outlying/below expected areas of concern across the quality agenda, with action being taken and additional support required to mitigate risks to Care Group and trust Leadership teams.
  • Support the Trust wide embedding of the Quality Strategy to align with Care Group objectives and help to deliver the quality standards expected by the CQC.
  • Alongside the Head of Quality and the Deputy Head of Quality, ensure appropriate representation of the Care Group on relevant trust wide quality groups (e.g. Patient Safety Group, Patient Experience and Engagement Group, Clinical Effectiveness Governance Group). Ensuring there is thorough and accurate information cascade from Trust wide Governance meetings back to the Care Group and to assign actions to key team members, monitoring them to completion within agreed timescales.
  • Contribute to the production of the Quality Account, seeking opportunities to innovate and improve on the existing format.
  • Take responsibility for enabling the effective functioning of the Care Group Governance Meetings ensuring that agenda reflects priorities, risks and regulatory requirements of the Care Group and its specialities.
  • Support the establishment of forums within the Care Group, Directorates and services which support ward to board assurance by enabling effective discussion, decision making and escalation of quality (patient safety, experience, Clinical Effectiveness and risk management).
  • Support the robust and regular communications programme for Quality and Safety to keep all Care Group staff informed of key trends, events, learning and data, as well as circulating learning from across the Trust.
  • Support the development of expertise in the use of Quality Improvement tools and techniques within the Care Group and clinical departments. Support teams to create a culture and environment which promotes quality improvement and learning within the organisation and improve patient outcomes.

  • Management qualification or equivalent experience of leading and developing individuals and teams
  • Evidence of completion of relevant risk management training
  • Evidence of completion or working towards PSIRF required training i.e. Involving patients, families and staff in learning from patient safety incidents, Duty of Candour, Systems approach to patient safety incidents
Experience
  • Experience of working in the NHS, with experience of undertaking areas identified within the job description e.g. audit, patient safety, guidelines, complaints, risk, CQC work, claims.
  • Experience in training and/or coaching and being open
Experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of critical appraisal skills / the ability to evaluate, triangulate and critically appraise information
  • Experience of using quality improvement methodology to monitor and improve services

  • Ability to plan and organise a varying workload effectively to meet deadlines in the short and long term.
  • A flexible approach to work with the ability to react accordingly to changing demands and work priorities
