Job Specification

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Reports To: Inspection Supervisor

Location: Lower Dicker, UK

Job Purpose / Primary Objective: The Quality Inspector is responsible for carrying out first‑off, batch, and incoming goods inspections to ensure components and assemblies meet specified engineering and quality standards. The role requires strong attention to detail, technical accuracy, and adherence to company quality procedures and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform first‑off, batch, and incoming goods inspections in accordance with current drawings and specifications.
  • Work to established inspection plans and ensure compliance with all documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIRs) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
  • Conduct visual and magnified inspections of components to assess surface finishes and critical sealing faces.
  • Inspect components produced from CNC machines to ensure correct surface finishes and dimensional accuracy.
  • Inspect sub‑assemblies using a variety of metrology tools, including Faro Arm (CMM) equipment.
  • Work with tight tolerances and demonstrate understanding of geometric tolerancing and datum systems for complex components.
  • Carry out visual weld inspections to identify any defects.
  • Record and report deviations and non‑conformances from drawings and specifications.
  • Raise concessions and reject notes where required.
  • Ensure current drawing revisions are always in use.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments to resolve quality issues.
  • Apply ISO 2859‑1:1999 sampling procedures for inspection by attributes.
  • Update and maintain inspection data within the company’s ERP system.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience working to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a machine shop or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Quality and Process Management tools (e.g. SPC, AQL).
  • Proficient in the use of CMM or Faro Arm and a wide range of metrology equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge or experience of welding and fabrication processes.
  • Previous experience in the vacuum industry.
  • Desirable: BTEC / HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
