Job description

Quality Inspector / CMM Programmer

Our client, a precision engineering company based on the outskirts of Fareham, is looking to recruit an experienced Quality Inspector / CMM Programmer to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically challenging, bespoke components across a range of high‑spec industries. The successful candidate will have hands‑on experience programming CMM machines from scratch and will play a key role in maintaining the highest quality standards throughout the production process. The company operates in a fast‑paced, high‑precision environment, and for the right person there will be future progression opportunities within the Quality department.

Key Responsibilities

• Program and operate CMM machines using Mitutoyo, MCOSMOS, or PC‑DMIS software
• Perform first‑off, last‑off, and in‑process inspections
• Generate FAIRs (First Article Inspection Reports)
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications
• Support and maintain compliance with the company’s Quality Management System
• Provide technical feedback to the production team and raise quality concerns proactively
• Analyse customer models and drawings to extract technical inspection data
• Create inspection reports and clearly communicate any issues to management
• Assist in maintaining document control and quality records for audit purposes

Requirements

• Proven experience programming CMMs from scratch
• Strong working knowledge of CMM software: Mitutoyo, MCOSMOS, or PC‑DMIS
• Solid understanding of engineering drawings and geometric tolerances
• Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Confident communicator, able to work closely with production, management, and external stakeholders
