Job summary

Azenta UK, Ltd. in Wotton, Surrey, is seeking a highly motivated Quality Scientist to join our onsite manufacturing team. You will manage customer quality issues, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.

The role requires a scientific or engineering degree, experience in pharma/biotech/medical devices, Lean expertise, and proficiency with 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, 8D, FMEA, SPC, and Excel. ISO13485/ISO9001 knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage customer raised product quality issues, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues efficiently, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Lead and facilitate problem-solving sessions using tools such as 8D Methodology / 5 Whys / Fishbone Diagrams / FMEA / SPC.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality and optimize processes.
• Monitor and update quality dashboards, tracking KPIs including Defects Per Unit.
• Lead on quality control practices and Lean methodologies.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities.
• Support the introduction of new products by ensuring build robustness and reliability.
• Review and approve engineering changes to maintain consistent product quality.

This is a permanent, onsite role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and brings strong problem solving capabilities, including proficiency in tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.

What You’ll be Doing

• Manage customer raised product quality issues, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues efficiently, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Lead and facilitate problem-solving sessions using tools such as: 8D Methodology / 5 Whys / Fishbone Diagrams / FMEA / SPC.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (Production, Engineering, Supply Chain) to enhance product quality and optimize processes.
• Monitor and update the Quality Dashboard, tracking KPIs including Defects Per Unit.
• Lead on quality control practices and Lean methodologies.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities effectively.
• Support the introduction of new products by ensuring build robustness and reliability.
• Review and approve engineering changes to maintain consistent product quality.

What You’ll Bring

• Scientific or Engineering degree preferable.
• Experience in pharma, biotech, or medical devices.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong background in Lean principles, with a focus on process optimization and waste reduction.
• ISO13485 / ISO9001 required.
• Advanced experience with the 8D Methodology.
• Knowledge of plastics/injection molding or the life sciences industry would be highly advantageous.
• Proficiency with analytical tools including Excel, Pivot Tables, and Pareto Charts.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a diverse, dynamic team environment.
• Excellent data presentation and analytical skills.
• Experience with root cause analysis tools like 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.

Working Conditions / Schedule

This position is fully on-site in Wotton, Surrey. Some international travel may be required.
