A position has arisen within the Quality team for a Production Quality Engineer to support the FLS (front-line-support) and Operational teams at Collins Aerospace in Plymouth.

The Production Quality Engineer will act as the main focal between the Quality function, and the Plymouth FLS and Operational teams. The role will primarily be located within the manufacturing shop-floor environment and will include providing Quality support to the Joint Venture (Silicon Sensing Limited) as required. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, confident, self-motivated and consistently demonstrate the standards expected of RTX staff.

What You Will Do:
  • Ensure compliance to the AS9100 Standard, Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and uphold company cardinal rules
  • Collaborate with Operations and Project teams to ensure Quality standards are in effect and product conforms to requirements, providing guidance in all matters related to Quality
  • Participate in the Deviation Review Board (DRB) to identify and manage risk to product, via internal concessions / production permits and the generation and maintenance of Quality Note Requests (QNR)
  • Support change control management from initial planning through baseline implementation
  • Generate FAI reports to the AS9102 standard, on time, to support customer delivery commitments
  • Collate, analyse and report performance data in weekly/monthly quality reports as required
  • Support on site customer visits and audits (1st, 2nd, 3rd Party) as required
  • Participate in document reviews and provide constructive feedback to document authors via robust peer review
  • Drive escape resolution and non-conformance management from initial containment through to completion, achieving key milestones within the process, i.e. Containment, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, Mistake Proofing (8D toolset)
  • Support Joint Venture Quality related activities, such as PCN (Process Change Request), Control Tower Metrics, Goods-inwards product inspection and other tasks as required

The Quality function supports across the entire Value Stream and provides impact, via value added activity, to the wider business and organisation. Our customer base demands compliance to not only the AS9100D aerospace standard - which is the minimum requirement, but their own stringent quality requirements.

Qualifications / Experience You Must Have:
  • Ideally educated to HND / Degree level in an Engineering / Quality discipline
  • Prior relevant experience working within quality management
  • A basic awareness of AS9100, ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards
  • Competent in the use of common IT software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Familiar with common Quality tools: PPAP / APQP / PFD / Control Plans / PFMEA / 8D etc.
  • It is anticipated the successful applicant will have a high level of visibility both within the organisation and externally with key customers - strong communication skills will be required.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Knowledge of IPC-J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Devices standards advantageous
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 Visual Inspection Criteria of Electronic Devices standards advantageous
  • Knowledge of SAP, Solumina, Enovia, DISCUS, Minitab systems would be advantageous
  • CQI / CMI certifications
  • AS9100D auditor training
  • Lean, Six Sigma, Red X, APQP, PPAP /certification details
  • Six Sigma Green / Black Belt
  • DO-178 Software Consideration in Airborne Systems, DO-254 Design Assurance for Airborne Electronic Hardware
