Job summary

Hays is seeking a dedicated Quality Engineer to join a well-established precision engineering manufacturing company in County Down. The role focuses on maintaining high quality standards and driving continuous improvement within a regulated environment, collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

You will verify conformity to drawings and specs, manage NCRs, lead root cause analyses, and support audits, Lean, and 5S.

Qualifications

• Experience in QA or engineering within manufacturing.
• ISO 9001 knowledge and quality management systems.
• Experience reading engineering drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, thread gauges).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Verify product conformity against drawings, specs and customer requirements.
• Measure using precision instruments to ensure quality.
• Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and lead root cause analyses.
• Implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Support audits and maintain the Quality Management System; analyze quality data for improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive Lean/5S initiatives.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with customer and industry standards, and driving initiatives that enhance overall quality performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and external stakeholders, to investigate issues, implement corrective actions, and uphold the company's commitment to excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in quality assurance or engineering within a manufacturing setting. Relevant qualifications include a degree or diploma in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline. Proven experience working with ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems is essential. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications is required. Additionally, experience with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and thread gauges is necessary. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are critical for success in this role. Familiarity with data analysis software, particularly Microsoft Excel, will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the Quality Engineer include verifying product conformity against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements through detailed inspections. You will conduct measurements using precision equipment to ensure products meet quality standards. Managing non-conformance reports (NCRs) and leading root cause analyses will be a key part of your role, along with implementing corrective and preventative actions to address quality issues. Investigating customer complaints and collaborating with suppliers to improve quality performance are also vital tasks. Supporting and maintaining the Quality Management System, preparing for internal and external audits, and analyzing quality data to identify improvement opportunities will be ongoing activities. Monitoring key metrics such as NCRs, customer complaints, scrap rates, rework levels, and first pass yield will help track quality performance. Additionally, you will support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, 5S practices, and other continuous improvement projects, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence and uphold the company's quality standards.
