Job summary

Alliance Medical is seeking a QC Radiochemist to join the Radiopharmacy team on a fixed-term 12-month contract with a view to permanence after completion. Training in GMP, radiation safety and quality systems will be provided, with 40 hours per week across shifts to accommodate the short shelf-life of radiopharmaceuticals.

New graduates or experienced candidates with an analytical chemistry background are invited.

Qualifications

  • Newly qualified graduates or experienced candidates with an analytical chemistry background.
  • Training in GMP, radiation safety and Quality Management Systems will be provided.
  • Routines include protocol operation and maintenance of QC lab equipment.
  • Strict adherence to GMP, GLP and MHRA safety guidelines.
  • 40 hours per week, Monday-Sunday, with shift work.
  • Fixed-term 12 months with potential permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain routine QC protocols in the chemistry lab.
  • Manage sampling, testing and release of materials.
  • Maintain QC equipment including HPLC, GC, pH, Osmolality, and LAL.
  • Record faults and contribute to quality systems and SOPs.
  • Provide training and support for rota/back-up in QC operations.
  • Adhere to local licenses and regulatory requirements.

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a QC Radiochemist to join our Radiopharmacy team, initially on a fixed term contract for 12 months with the likelihood of a permanent position upon completion of the 12 months.

Candidates working in QC will report to the QC Manager and shall receive training in all aspects of radiopharmaceutical Testing for release including GC, HPLC, r-TLC, Gamma spectroscopy etc. Extensive training in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), radiation safety and Quality Management Systems will be delivered to all.

Radiopharmaceuticals by their very nature have an extremely short shelf-life. As such these roles will entail unsocial hours and shift work. This is reflected in the remuneration with a local shift pattern to assure a harmonious work-life balance is maintained.

The role includes routine progress assessments and staged salary uplifts that are awarded as training milestones are achieved.

Hours of work for the roles are 40 hours per week Monday-Sunday.

We are inviting applications from newly and experienced graduates from a scientific background. To be considered for the role you must hold a BSc/MSc.

QC Routines

Operate and maintain routine protocols for the chemistry laboratory in strict adherence to GMP and relevant EU pharmacopoeia standards. Manage raw material sampling, testing and release system.

Maintenance

Ensure efficient performance of, and undertake first-line maintenance of, Quality Control equipment including HPLC (radiochemical and chemical purity of 18F FDG), Gas Chromatography, pH measurement, Osmolality and LAL.

Faults

Maintain records of faults on any dysfunction - operational or equipment.

Quality Systems

In association with the QC Managerto develop, implement and manage cGMP, Quality Control and Quality Assurance systems and procedures for standard PET tracers.

Materials

Ordering of chemicals, glassware, cleaning and other consumables for routine QC analysis. Formulation of reagents for radiochemistry, mixing of solvents for HPLC and other analyses, cleaning of glassware and disposal of waste chemicals and materials.

Standard Operating Procedures

Prepare updated SOPs in accordance with the relevant guidelines as may be necessary from time to time for approval by QAand adoption by the unit.

Training Others

Provide training and support for others selected as rota / backup in undertaking routine QC operations.

Regulatory

Strictly adhere to GMP, GLP and safety protocols laid down by the MHRA, EA and HSE in accordance with issued licenses as determined from time to time. Corresponding adherence to local rules.
