A leading quality control firm in Birtley is seeking a meticulous Quality Control / Product Complaints Investigator. In this permanent, lab-based position, you will work closely with the Technical Support team to investigate product quality and performance issues, analyze complaints, and drive improvements. The ideal candidate holds a Higher Education Science Qualification and possesses strong analytical and hands-on skills. This role offers a structured workweek without direct customer contact.

Qualifications

  • A-Level, BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science, or equivalent.
  • Experience in QC or laboratory environment is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.

  • Check QC retained batch samples against specification standards.
  • Investigate product performance against specific complaints.

Job Overview

We are looking for a methodical, hands‑on Quality Control / Product Complaints Investigator to join our client's team in Birtley. This permanent, lab‑based role focuses on investigating product quality and performance following customer complaints. You will work closely with the Technical Support team to provide clear and accurate findings, helping drive product improvements and maintain high‑quality standards. No direct customer contact is required.

Hours of Work

Monday‑Thursday 8:30am‑5:00pm | Fri 8:30am‑4:00pm (36.5 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities
  • Check QC retained batch samples against specification standards to ensure high quality and fitness for purpose
  • Investigate product performance against specific complaints not covered by standard QC
  • Analyze samples from sites to identify causes of coating failures
  • Write detailed investigation reports and update complaint records for Technical Support
  • Investigate recurring product issues and assist with improvements alongside QA and R&D teams
  • Support R&D projects where required
  • Maintain QC retained samples store and assist with statistical reporting
Person Specification / Essential Skills
  • Higher Education Science Qualification (A‑level, BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science, or equivalent)
  • Methodical, analytical, and organised approach
  • Practical, hands‑on skills
  • Self‑starter; able to work independently and prioritise workload
  • Professional approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Computer literate, experience with SAP beneficial
Desirable Experience
  • Previous QC or laboratory experience
  • Experience in a lab‑based educational setting
  • Familiarity within a manufacturing environment
