Job description

We are on the lookout for a Quality Assurance Partner to join our Product Quality team here at Tesco. This role is ideal for someone passionate about fresh food quality who enjoys hands-on work across depots, supplier sites, and occasionally in stores.

The role is primarily depot-based (approximately 60%), with supplier visits (30%) and store checks (10%). Mobility within the region is essential so a UK Driving Licence and access to a car is essential as being able to get yourself from location to location.

  • Assessing the quality of Tesco products using the correct tools, methods, and product specifications across multiple sites.
  • Applying strong product knowledge to make informed accept / reject / advisory decisions.
  • Conducting supplier visits to complete a variety of checks at different parts of the chain, resolve quality concerns, and verify adherence to agreed specifications.
  • Completing in-store checks and working with in-store teams to capture and feedback real-time product performance as well as quality related coaching of store colleagues.
  • Ensuring full compliance with, and contributing to the development of all Product Quality Assurance processes and procedures.
  • Working with suppliers, technical teams, and Quality Assurance colleagues to identify and drive improvements in product quality across the supply chain.
  • Recording, analysing, and presenting product quality data accurately to multiple stakeholders.
  • Supporting new colleagues through sharing knowledge, coaching, and demonstrating great quality assurance practices.
  • Participating in training and team days and completing required assessments to maintain capability, as well as working alongside colleagues in multiple locations.
  • Supporting ad-hoc testing and wider Quality team initiatives when required, whilst always acting with integrity, following the Tesco Business Code of Conduct and GSCOP.
  • Assessing the quality, freshness and condition of perishable products, using specifications, visual standards and intrinsic tests to make accurate accept/reject decisions based on quality and food safety.
  • Identifying defects, deterioration patterns and root causes, and spotting trends in product or supplier performance through effective data recording, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in fast-paced distribution or fresh food operations, working across multiple sites including depots, suppliers and stores, and adapting to seasonal or supply-chain variation.
  • Strong cross-functional working skills, collaborating with suppliers, technical teams and depot colleagues to resolve quality issues and maintain high standards.
  • Supporting colleagues through coaching and knowledge-sharing, and following food safety processes, SOPs and audit requirements.
  • Able to balance availability and quality objectively while planning and prioritising workload across varied environments.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, accuracy and time-management skills, with the ability to work methodically and independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with confident stakeholder engagement at all levels.
  • Good IT capability to manage data and produce clear reports.
  • Flexible and mobile, willing to travel within a region; detailed knowledge of fresh products or the ability to build this quickly.
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a car.
