Job description

Quality Assurance Engineer

Pearson Carter are supporting a growing organisation as they continue to expand their internal technology function. As part of this growth, they are seeking a QA Engineer to join the team and play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and usability of their software applications.

The successful candidate will initially concentrate on manual testing, investigating issues and supporting established QA processes. Over time, there will be the opportunity to broaden your technical responsibilities, working with the development team on bug fixes, unit testing and automated test coverage.

This is a great role for an aspiring QA professional who wants to build strong testing foundations while developing towards a more technically focused software development career.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and carry out manual testing of web, desktop and API-driven applications.
  • Investigate issues thoroughly, reproduce defects and record clear, actionable information for the development team.
  • Carry out regression and exploratory testing to ensure new changes have not introduced unexpected problems.
  • Review requirements and acceptance criteria and use them to develop appropriate test scenarios.
  • Keep test cases, test results and other QA documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Work closely with developers, product owners and other members of the technology team to resolve issues and improve product quality.
  • Develop your C#/.NET skills by contributing to bug fixes, smaller development changes and unit tests.
  • Assist with the introduction and maintenance of automated testing.
  • Take part in code reviews and technical discussions as your development knowledge grows.
Experience
  • Some knowledge or practical experience of software testing, including test scenarios, test cases, defect management and regression testing.
  • A methodical and analytical approach, with strong attention to detail and the confidence to investigate unusual behaviour and edge cases.
  • An understanding of how defects can affect customers and end users, including the importance of severity, impact and potential workarounds.
  • Knowledge of core programming and object-oriented concepts such as variables, conditional logic, classes, objects, inheritance and encapsulation.
  • An awareness of relational databases, client/server architecture, APIs and REST/SOAP services.
  • Familiarity with common web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON and XML.
  • Degree-level education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through internships, bootcamps, personal projects or self-directed learning.
  • Clear communication skills and a genuine interest in developing a long-term career within QA and software development.
Desirable
  • ISTQB Foundation certification or another recognised QA qualification.
  • Experience using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, TestRail, Selenium or Playwright.
  • Some exposure to C#/.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript and SQL.
  • Experience working with API testing tools, including Postman or Swagger.
  • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit or MSTest.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies, CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices.
