The role...

We are currently recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Nottingham office.

The role will involve assisting with the provision of a professional structural engineering service to the Practice and its clients.

This will mainly be focused on defence, secure infrastructure, and aviation industries. The role will need the candidate to be experienced in coordinating a multi-disciplinary design team, providing technical design solutions in a process driven environment and the ability to prepare technical packages from conception through to completion.

The selected candidate will...

  • Work with the team leader to endeavour to maintain a fee income for the structural engineering team in Nottingham to an agreed monthly target.
  • Assist in the promotion of the Practice's structural engineering services.
  • Design practical structural design solutions and to interpret with architectural concepts in a practical and economic manner.
  • Design and assist with supervising projects, establish client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plans and agree deliverables, i.e. report, specifications and drawings scope for all projects.
  • Assist in agreeing a level of service and project design duties for each project, understanding the relationship with the fee.
  • Assist with monitoring engineering/CAD/Revit resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Carry out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender and contract, on site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaise with the design team to produce co-ordinated designs that are technically compliant to a consistent quality and standard. Provide positive contribution to design/project meetings as directed where required. Maintain regular 'in house' design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets where applicable.
  • Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Undertake structural survey works and produce reports for the same.
  • Provide or input to fee quotations as may be required to assist in bidding for work as requested.
  • Promote BIM and 3D design/drawings to ensure that they comply with the Practice's BIM strategy, as well as other Practice services.
  • To act as Senior Structural Engineer on projects by attending site for Pre-Start and Project Meetings.
  • To understand and clearly define clients' expectations to provide advice, keep them informed of progress on projects and make them aware of technical and financial implications.
  • Assist with the development of junior members of the team, their training and development.
  • Be comfortable designing within a set framework of client prescribed policy, process and regulations with an attention to detail.
