Role Summary
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Pharmacy Dispenser to join our dispensary team. As a dispenser at Colchester City Pharmacy, you will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to ensure the accurate dispensing of prescriptions, manage stock, provide excellent customer service, and contribute to a safe and efficient pharmacy operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare, label, and dispense prescription medications in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Verify prescription data and endorse prescriptions as needed
- Handle repeat prescription requests and process them efficiently
- Assist in stock management: ordering, receiving, checking, and rotating stock to minimize wastage
- Maintain accurate records of controlled drugs, where applicable
- Prepare monitored dosage systems (e.g., dosette boxes), if required
- Provide patients with basic advice on how to take their medicines, referring to the pharmacist for clinical queries
- Support day-to-day dispensary operations, including housekeeping, filing, and pharmacy administration
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including health & safety, data protection, and pharmacy legislation
- Work collaboratively with the pharmacy team to deliver a high standard of patient care
Person Specification / Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience working in a pharmacy or dispensary environment
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude
- Basic IT skills (to use pharmacy software)
- Ability to work as part of a team and under supervision
- Flexible to work a variety of shifts (may include weekends)
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services / Dispenser qualification
- Experience with monitored dosage systems / dosette boxes
- Oakfields Health Group
Other Requirements:
- Prior experience in community pharmacy
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo)
- Basic understanding of pharmacy regulatory standards
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
