Job description

QHSE Manager

Location: East Sussex

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per annum

An established and growing electrical engineering and manufacturing organisation is looking for a proactive and experienced QHSE Manager to take ownership of all Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental functions across the business. This is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining and improving the company's QMS, ensuring compliance with ISO9001, driving audit readiness, and supporting the organisation's journey toward ISO14001 and ISO45001 accreditation.

Working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Management Team, you will act as the primary point of contact for all QHSE matters. Responsibilities include leading investigations, managing NCRs and 8D processes, supporting inspections and testing activities, coordinating internal and external audits, and ensuring that all operational practices meet both legal and customer requirements. You will also play a central role in promoting a strong safety culture and driving continuous improvement across quality and HSE performance.

This role is hands‑on and varied, requiring strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and the confidence to influence and engage at all levels—from production teams to customers and external auditors. You will have autonomy to shape systems, introduce best practice, and deliver meaningful improvements throughout the business.

Ideal Candidate
  • Proven experience as a QHSE Manager or similar role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO9001, audit processes, root‑cause analysis, and quality tools (NCR, 8D, 5-Why).
  • Experience in electrical engineering, switchgear manufacturing, or the rail sector is highly desirable, due to the nature of the products and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of ISO14001 and ISO45001, with the ability to support the business in achieving these standards.
  • Confident communicator who can liaise effectively with customers, suppliers, auditors, and internal teams.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute as part of the senior leadership group.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical ability, and a positive, improvement‑focused mindset.

This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable QHSE professional to take a leading role in a technically focused, fast‑paced organisation where your input will directly shape operational performance, compliance, and business reputation.
